Curious about Friday Night Art Club? Here's everything you need to know about our free weekly art event at Studio 33!

When Oscar and I first opened Studio 33 near the end of summer 2024, we had a hazy vision of what we wanted the space to become: Part working studio, part shop/gallery, part classroom and event space.
Most of all, we wanted a place where people could come and make stuff with us. As we're just a few minutes' walk from the beach (and our backyard is full of plants and surfboards), we envisioned a kind of community beach house/art space that people could feel comfortable strolling into on the weekend.
Of course, a big piece of that vision is the weekend classes and workshops that we host, and our open studio hours on Saturdays and Sundays. But what kicks off each weekend at Studio 33 is Friday Night Art Club. We wanted something that is completely free and open to anyone who is looking for the time and space just to make stuff. Having experienced apartment living in Tainan for years, we know how hard it can be to keep a consistent creative workspace at home; and now that we have the space for it, we want it to be available to everyone.
So, what is Friday Night Art Club?
Less of a class, more of a creative hangout, Friday Night Art Club is our weekly time to open the doors of Studio 33 for anyone who's in the mood to make something neat.
Beginning at 6:30pm and ending whenever it feels right (usually around 9:30 or 10pm), free art supplies is available to use to make whatever you want, with as much or as little feedback and guidance from other Art Club members as you'd like.
Got a project you're working on, but need a space to do it (or some feedback from other makers)? Sweet! Bring it along!
Have an idea in mind but not sure what materials you need? No worries, we've got all the paints and art supplies you could want.
Not sure where to start, but just feel like letting your creative juices flow? Perfect! We've got space to experiment and plenty of references to spark your imagination.
Joining art club is completely free and open to everyone. Space is limited, so it's best to RSVP in advance to save your seat.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Art Club really free?
Yes! Thanks to some very kind donations, and my habit of buying way more art supplies than I'll ever be able to use on my own, we have lots of materials available for you to use at Friday Night Art Club completely free of charge--including pencils, paper, oil pastels, colored pencils, brushes, watercolors, acrylic paint, and more.
All of these provided materials are beginner-friendly. If you'd like to purchase some of our more "professional" supplies to use during art club (like a canvas or some of the fancier paints) you can, but this is definitely not required!
Why do I have to sign up?
Our studio space is limited, and we change the layout of our painting tables to best suit the number of people who will be using them. Signing up in advance helps us prepare the space so that everyone is comfortable. :)
I don't have anything in mind to work on. Can I just come and hang out?
Absolutely! We've had art club visitors who join as a "plus one," some who come to study, and some who just want to check it out without committing to an art project. All are welcome! And if you feel inspired once you get here, you can doodle or experiment however you like. No pressure.
We also have beer, wine, and homemade ice cream available for purchase, if you really want to make it a party. ;)
What if I start making something at Art Club but I don't finish it in time?
Not a problem. We have drying racks and storage space here, so you are welcome to leave your works-in-progress at the studio and pick them back up where you left off next time you're here.
Okay, I'm in. How do I sign up?
Woohoo! You can reserve your seat at the next Friday Night Art Club by visiting our Events page right here. It will ask you to provide your name and email address so we can notify you in case of a cancellation. If you prefer, you can also RSVP by sending me a direct message on Instagram.
See you on Friday!
